Victor Lindelöf Joins Aston Villa on Two-Year Deal
Aston Villa have signed Swedish player Victor Lindelöf on a two-year contract. They have an option to extend it until June 2028. Lindelöf returns to the Premier League after being released by Manchester United at the end of last season, as he is currently a free agent following his exit from the club.
TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY MOVE
The 31-year-old defender completed the move on deadline day after spending eight seasons at Old Trafford. Lindelöf played most of his Premier League games with Manchester United, appearing in 284 matches and scoring four goals. Now, he faces a new challenge with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who want to strengthen their defence after finishing 6th in the Premier League last season and qualifying for the Europa League, a feat they achieved by finishing in that same position.
LINDELÖF’S EXPERIENCE AND VILLA’S AMBITIONS
Lindelöf brings valuable experience to Aston Villa. He is the captain of the Sweden national team and has 71 caps. Lindelöf can offer leadership and consistency to Villa’s defence. Last season at Manchester United, he played in 32 matches across all competitions. His ability to stay calm under pressure and his understanding of the game will give Villa more options in central defence. With injuries and departures affecting Villa’s defence last season, Aston Villa hopes Victor Lindelöf will strengthen their defense for the upcoming Premier League season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR VILLA AND LINDELÖF?
Lindelöf could make his Aston Villa debut after the international break in their next Premier League match. Villa play an away game against Everton on Saturday, 13 September. The Villans hope Lindelöf can help them bridge the four-point gap to Tottenham, who finished 5th last season. They also want to keep their distance from Newcastle in 7th. With league, cup, and Europa League matches ahead, Lindelöf’s experience will be important for Villa’s aspirations in 2025-26, especially as they aim to improve their league position following a poor start to the current season.
