Victor Lindelöf Set To Join Aston Villa After Manchester United Exit
Victor Lindelöf is set to join Aston Villa on a free transfer as the financial constraints continue to prevent the club from splashing cash on new players. The Sweden international’s addition will bring in much-needed numbers and experience at the heart of defense as Villa look to earn their first victory of the season this afternoon. Lindelöf is a free agent after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer in June, representing a bargain given his experience.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Lindelöf agreed a two-year contract with the club on Friday, and he travelled to Villa‘s Bodymoor Heath training base to finalise his deal on Saturday. After completing his medical, Villa hope to be able to announce Lindelöf as their player later today, with the defender expected to be on the pitch after their match against Crystal Palace at around 5.35pm. That is why they have now pounced for 31-year-old Lindelöf, who has eight years of Premier League experience. His wealth of knowledge of the division is crucial to a Villa side that currently has just Pau Torres, Robbie McClinton, and young Goldon Akueteh as available centre-backs.
WHERE WILL LINDENLÖF FIT IN AT VILLA?
Summer signing Evann Guessand is yet to be included in a matchday squad after his £25 million move from Nice. Villa are under pressure this afternoon to secure all three points after drawing with Newcastle and losing to Brentford and Chelsea so far this season.
They have yet to score a goal in the league this season and their struggles have been highlighted by last season’s starting right-back Hugo Bueno not being included in a matchday squad. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has also been reduced to second-choice due to his poor performances of late, but he is set to start this afternoon with Bizot out due to illness.
WHAT NEXT FOR ASTON VILLA?
Lindelöf is likely to play a key role for Aston Villa as they hope to find form and stabilise their season in a bid to avoid the drop! Aston Villa is actively looking for new attacking players, particularly after losing Marcus Rashford, and Leon Bailey they have turned their attention to Marcos Asensio from PSG.
