Villarreal Agree Personal Terms with Renato Veiga Amid Ongoing Chelsea Talks

Villarreal have agreed personal terms with Chelsea defender Renato Veiga. But, transfer talks with the English club remain ongoing over the fee.

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to reports, 22-year-old Veiga has been seeking an exit from Chelsea after falling out of the club’s plans between spells out injured. Atletico Madrid registered their interest earlier in the window, but it is Villarreal who have emerged as the current contenders for his signature. As reported, Renato Veiga wants to join Villarreal.

Veiga is thought to be keen on the switch to Villarreal and is said to have agreed personal terms, but there is still a discrepancy between the two clubs over the final fee. Villarreal’s first offer is understood to be around €24m (£20.5m/$26.1m) plus add-ons, which falls well short of Chelsea’s valuation of €35m (£30m/$38.1m).

Renato Veiga is targeting an exit from Chelsea. Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are among those interested, but Chelsea, though, will demand an elevated price to let him leave. According to reports, Chelsea want at least €25 million for Renato Veiga.

The report adds that Villarreal are expected to raise their final offer closer to €30m (£25.7m/$32.7m) through performance-based add-ons and Veiga is the club’s top priority should Chelsea listen to their proposal.

Villarreal boss Marcelino is looking to sign a new central defender after losing Bailly after his contract expired, and are looking for help for the upcoming Champions League campaign.

WHY DO VILLARREAL WANT VEIGA?

Villarreal have European ambitions and feel the Portuguese international is right for the job. The team is determined to strengthen its squad this summer to push for a deep run in European competitions. Veiga – who made 18 appearances for Chelsea last season – is seen as a key addition who can shore up Villarreal’s defence.

WHY DO CHELSEA WANT TO SELL VEIGA?

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to sell Veiga in order to bring in funds to buy a new defender following an injury to Levi Colwill, who is expected to miss most of the season due to a serious ACL injury. We have learned that Renato Veiga’s future at Chelsea is unclear, with many clubs interested in him. Chelsea remain interested in bringing in another centre back and are standing firm on their asking price for Veiga, with Enzo Maresca keen to continue the overhaul of his squad this summer.

Veiga is out of favour at Chelsea after spending over a year sidelined with a serious knee injury he suffered during a loan spell at Juventus. He remained at the club after returning to training last season and played an important role in the final stretch of the 2024/25 campaign, which was something of a mini-revival for the Blues. However, Veiga started this summer’s pre-season back with Chelsea’s reserve team and was told he was free to leave the club should a suitable offer be made. Maresca has since held talks with the 22-year-old about his future, but he appears to have told the player that his future lies away from Stamford Bridge.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR VEIGA?

Renato Veiga is nearing a Chelsea exit, and a decision is expected on his future in the coming days, as the Premier League started last weekend and Chelsea were held to a draw. Chelsea will be visint West Ham next, aiming to get their 1st win of the season, while Villarreal face Girona in their La Liga 2nd match on the same day.
