Vitor Reis Joins Girona on Season-Long Loan from Manchester City
Brazilian defender Vitor Reis is joining Girona on loan from Manchester City for the 2025/26 season. He hopes to get more playing time in La Liga after limited action in England.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Vitor Reis, 19, moved to Manchester City from Palmeiras earlier in 2025 for around €35 million. Although he was seen as a major talent, he made just one minute of Premier League action last season, plus four appearances in cup competitions. Manchester City have reached an agreement for the loan of Reis to Girona, part of the City Football Group, to help him gain experience and develop through regular first-team football. The loan move is confirmed and subject to international clearance according to reports.
WHY GIRONA?
Girona finished the last La Liga season in sixteenth place, struggling against relegation. They are looking to strengthen their defense for a demanding season ahead, with an improved set of results in La Liga as priorities. Reis joins a team that impressed with fast, attacking football and a solid defense. The Spaniards will open their new league campaign at home against Rayo Vallecano on August 15. Rayo finished 7th last season and will be eager to start well, but Girona will also want to start with the right foot.
WHAT NEXT FOR CITY AND REIS?
Manchester City are 3rd in the Premier League from last season and will start their new domestic season away at Wolves on August 16. Vitor Reis is expected to get much more playing time in Spain, with Girona hoping to repeat last season’s strong form and secure a safer finish. For City, the loan gives Reis a chance to develop before returning to fight for a place alongside established center-backs like Rúben Dias, John Stones, and Nathan Aké. It is noteworthy that Manchester City retains a buy-back option for Reis after his loan to Girona.
