Vitor Reis Set for Loan Move to Girona from Manchester City

Vitor Reis is set to travel to Spain as he readies to join Girona on loan from Manchester City. All agreements are signed for the 2025/26 season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 19-year-old Brazilian defender, who joined Manchester City from Palmeiras for around €35 million earlier this year, will complete a season-long loan move to Girona. The deal has been agreed between both clubs and includes a recall clause that gives Manchester City the option to bring Reis back if needed during the season. Medical tests and final contract signing at Girona are scheduled for tomorrow, which are the final steps of the transfer process.

Vitor Reis and team context

Reis has yet to make his first-team debut for Manchester City but has impressed with his performances at youth level since arriving in January. He played mostly with the Manchester City Under-23s last season, making 28 appearances and scoring twice in Premier League 2. City, who finished last season in third place in the Premier League, are loaning out Reis to help him gain top-flight experience in La Liga. Girona, who finished 16th in La Liga last season and conceded 60 goals, are looking to build on a disappointing campaign and hope that Reis can strengthen their defensive line for their push towards a European qualification spot. As per a recent report, Girona will benefit from Vitor Reis adding depth to their defense as they strive for an improved performance this season, aiming to close the five-point gap to mid-table rivals.

WHAT NEXT FOR GIRONA AND MANCHESTER CITY?

Girona will begin their 2025/26 La Liga campaign at home against Rayo Vallecano, who ended last season in the last European qualification spot in eighth. The signing of Vitor Reis comes as Girona aims to improve upon their previous season’s finish and break into the top half of the table. Manchester City, meanwhile, will monitor Reis’ development closely, knowing they can recall him if injury or squad needs arise. City’s next match is the Premier League opener against Wolves, with both clubs looking to set the pace for the new season.
