Vladyslav Vanat Completes €20m Transfer To Girona After Early Morning Clause Paid

Ukrainian striker Vladyslav Vanat has officially joined Spanish club Girona. His €20 million release clause was paid at 3am. This transfer is important for both Dinamo Kiev and Girona as the team continues to strengthen its squad after a challenging season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Girona activated Vanat’s €20 million release clause early on August 29, finalizing the deal with Dinamo Kiev. Dinamo had rejected lower offers and insisted on the full clause payment for Vanat. After stand-out performances in Ukraine, Vanat becomes the latest Ukrainian to join Girona, following midfielder Viktor Tsygankov and goalkeeper Vladyslav Krapivtsov. Vanat was left out of Dinamo’s last match to avoid injury risks as the deal took shape.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR GIRONA AND DINAMO KIEV

Girona finished third in La Liga during the 2023-24 season, securing their first-ever UEFA Champions League spot after a significant turnaround. However, last season they battled against relegation and finished 16th in La Liga. Under coach Michel Sánchez, the team relies on energetic pressing and fast counterattacks. After losing key forwards, Girona aims to strengthen their attack with Vanat, who scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists in 31 appearances last season for Dinamo. Dinamo Kiev is second in the Ukrainian Premier League, two points behind leaders Dnipro-1. The loss of their main striker is a setback, but the club will benefit financially and could reinvest in new talent.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Vanat is expected to debut for Girona in their upcoming La Liga match against Sevilla, who finished seventeenth last season and are aiming for a European spot again as both teams are bottom of the league so far. Dinamo Kiev will play their next game against Kolos Kovalivka and must adapt quickly to life without Vanat as they aim to close the gap to the top spot. For Vanat, the move offers the chance to prove himself at a higher level and possibly feature in the Champions League for Girona this autumn.
