WEST BROM CLOSE IN ON SIGNING
West Brom have made a €5.5m (£4.8m) bid for SK Brann striker Aune Heggebø. The Baggies are confident of completing a deal for the 23-year-old after talks with the Norwegian club. Manager Ryan Mason is eager to bolster his attack as he prepares for his first campaign, with Albion still waiting to make a breakthrough in the transfer window. He has seen captain Conor Townsend and Josh Maja leave with Daryl Dike, Kyle Bartley, Bartosz Bialkowski and Ethan Laird all out of contract next summer.
Former Spurs boss Mason, who replaced Liam Rosenior in January, is keen to strengthen his frontline. He is aiming to build a promotion-challenging squad for the new Sky Bet Championship season.
He had looked at Sunderland’s Ross Stewart but the Black Cats have dismissed ideas he could depart.
Now, Albion are expected to win the race for Heggebø, who has also been on Ligue 1 side Strasbourg’s radar.
The forward has scored 47 goals in 137 appearances for Brann since breaking into their first team in 2020.
Albion have cash to spend after selling Jenson Weir to Augsburg for £6m and are expected to complete the formalities of Heggebø’s signing over the weekend.
Albion play Continental United in their final US tour game on Saturday after Wednesday’s friendly with St Louis City was abandoned due to heavy rain.
Heggebø is likely to be in line to face Leicester in Albion’s final pre-season friendly next Friday.
The Baggies open their Sky Bet Championship campaign at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, July 31.
A previous report noted that West Bromwich Albion finished 5th in the 2024/25 Championship season.
A subsequent report indicated that the club fell short in the play-off semi-finals in the 2024/25 season.
