Xabi Alonso Backs Rodrygo After Tough End to Last Season

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is supporting Rodrygo. Alonso praised the Brazilian forward’s improved focus and positive attitude before the new season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Rodrygo struggled at the end of last season. His form dropped and his confidence was affected. Speaking about his player, Alonso acknowledged those difficulties, saying, “I know what had happened. The end of the season wasn’t easy for him. He took some time to reset.” Alonso emphasized that he and Rodrygo have maintained close communication since his arrival, and now sees a player “eager to contribute on the field and enjoy himself.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rodrygo played an important role for Real Madrid during the 2024/25 season. He often scored goals and provided assists in key moments. Despite some struggles late in the campaign, the Brazilian finished with 17 goals and 8 assists in all competitions, helping Madrid secure a second-place finish in La Liga. Xabi Alonso, who took on managerial duties at the end of the season, has already confirmed that Rodrygo will be a crucial part of his plans going forward. Alonso described Rodrygo as a “spectacular player” whom the team will “need.”

WHAT COMES NEXT?

With pre-season training underway, Rodrygo is working hard to impress Alonso and solidify his starting spot. Real Madrid are preparing for their first match of the 2025/26 La Liga season against Sevilla. Sevilla finished third last year and are just two points behind Madrid in the recent standings. The upcoming fixture is crucial for both teams as they set the tone for a new title challenge. Rodrygo’s performance will be closely watched as fans and management hope he returns to his best form.
