Ciro Immobile Set to Join Bologna in Serie A Return

Ciro Immobile is coming back to Italian football by joining Bologna. He decided to end his contract with Besiktas. The Italian striker will sign a one-year contract with an option for another year. Federico Bernardeschi is also set to join Bologna as part of their summer reinforcements.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Immobile has agreed to end his contract with Besiktas and will soon head to Italy to finalize his move to Bologna. He is expected to sign a one-year deal with an option for a further season, reportedly worth €1.8 million plus bonuses. Bologna sweetened their offer to acquire Immobile, who earned more than €6 million in Turkey, with Besiktas paying €2.5 million as a part of the agreement. Last season, Immobile appeared in 41 games for Besiktas, scoring 19 goals and providing 4 assists. Bernardeschi will also pen a contract with Bologna after his own spell abroad.

According to a previous report, Besiktas finished fourth in the Super Lig last season and secured a Europa League spot.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The addition of Immobile and Bernardeschi marks an ambitious summer for Bologna as they look to solidify their squad for the 2025/26 Serie A season. Immobile, who turned 35 this year, is best known for his prolific years at Lazio and his Golden Boot season in 2019-20. His experience and leadership will be important for Bologna, who finished 9th last season, missing out on European qualification by just two points but winning the Coppa Italia. Bernardeschi’s arrival adds more strength and creativity to the attack with his versatility as a winger and playmaker.

As noted in a previous report, Bologna had a strong 2024/25 Serie A season, earning a spot in European competition.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOLOGNA?

Bologna will complete formalities and announce both signings within days. The squad will begin pre-season ahead of their first Serie A match against Roma, who finished in the european spots last season. Bologna currently aim to challenge for a European spot, tied on points with Fiorentina and just two above Torino. The club hopes the arrivals of Immobile and Bernardeschi will boost their attack and help them climb higher in the standings in the upcoming campaign.

According to a previous report, Bologna secured a Champions League spot and won the Coppa Italia last season.
