Olympique Marseille Eye Tim Weah as Juventus Open to Transfer

Olympique Marseille want to sign Tim Weah from Juventus. The American winger was close to joining Nottingham Forest, but his transfer failed this week.

According to a previous report, Nottingham Forest and Juventus agreed on a package deal worth around €22 million for Tim Weah and Samuel Mbangula.

WHAT HAPPENED?

As Paris Saint-Germain — Jorge Weah’s former club — also played in the Club World Cup, his son’s future is in doubt. Juventus and Nottingham Forest agreed terms for the American, but the player contracted refused to move to England to play for Nottingham. During the period, Mbangula, also from Juve and in the transfer package with Weak, also refused the move.

It has been reported that Nottingham Forest ended their pursuit of Timothy Weah, who turned down a move to the club.

Marseille are now set to open talks with Juventus. Their priority target remains Sacha Boey, the Galatasaray right-back, but they see Weah as a possible alternative or addition, especially as their left-back Perry Ng has been sidelined by a serious knee injury.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nuno Espirito Santo is interested in signing Sofian Kiyine from Standard Liege. The Belgium winger started his career in Forest’s academy and has been identified as a possible target for the Nottingham club. Kiyine’s contract is running out and he is not close to signing a new deal.

It is understood that Forest have confirmed to the 27-year-old that they will not offer him a contract extension next summer.

WHAT NEXT?

Forest are preparing for a season where they will play European football, as well as Marseille, and so are looking for reinforcements and squad improvements as they prepare for next season’s upcoming challenges.
